Aquatics

The Maquoketa Area Family YMCA Aquatics area is equipped with a six lane pool with a maximum depth of 5 feet sloping down to 3 foot 8 inches. This area is separated by a rope and buoy. The shallow end maximum depth is 3 foot 6 inches sloping to zero depth. The water features in the zero depth area consist of a wall of water, three spouts of water in the pool and three spouts of water on the deck. Diving is not allowed in any part of the pool, and entry can be made at the zero depth area, steps with a handrail, steps at the deepest end of the shallow area and ladders. A water basketball hoop is located on the west deck and can be used during open swim. Pool schedules are available to denote open swim, lap swim, classes, and hours of operation. Pool rules are posted and we ask pool users to shower before entering the pool area, dry off before re-entering locker rooms, and no shoes are allowed on the deck. Lifeguards are on duty at all times and are certified in First Aid, CPR and lifeguarding. The pool is equipped with a handicap accessible chair lift that will gently lower and lift wheelchair bound visitors into and out of the pool.

Aquatics FAQs
FAQ Swim lessons:
When do I need to sign up?
We have sign up dates for every session posted on the web site, and notices are posted in the Welcome Center of the YMCA. In order to assure that we have swim instructors available to teach lessons, it is required that children are signed up before the session begins.
PLEASE NOTE: There are a minimum number of students that’s required for each swim lesson class. In the event that we do not meet that minimum, the class will be cancelled. |
